Product approval, certification services - Australia

Telecoms and radio

TRaC offers a full testing and type approval service for a wide range of telecoms equipment to ensure that products intended for sale or use in Australia meet all of the necessary regulatory and compliance requirements for the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) approvals.

TRaC is a National Association of testing authorities (NATA) accredited test lab.

TRaC also offers project management of the ACMA type approval processes, from completion of application forms to ongoing liaison with the approvals bodies to ensure type approval is granted.

Type of Equipment Certification Type Approval Authority
Telecommunication line terminal equipment (TLTE) A-Tick certification ACMA
Radio Frequency (RF) Equipment C-Tick certification

Types of Equipment

Telecommunications Type Approval is applicable to fixed line telecommunications equipment.

RF Type Approval applications are separately identified within the various license types.

TLTE and RF Type Approval is applicable but not necessarily limited to, data and text processing equipment, data preparation equipment, data terminal equipment, data circuit terminating equipment (for example, modems), automatic telephone answering machines, facsimile transceivers, call restriction devices, cordless telephones, digital and analogue feature telephones, lightning protection devices, line monitoring equipment and speech recorders.

Type Approval Requirements

Applicants must show product compliance to National Standards. ACMA requires that Telecoms, EMC and Safety testing must be performed by organizations such as at TRaC, which is a NATA accredited test lab.

Supplier codes are only issued to local companies, therefore a local presence is required to complete the type approval process.

Project Management for ACMA Approvals

For ACMA approvals, the process that TRaC can project manage includes the following services:

  • Completion of all paperwork including application forms, declarations and letters of authority to be sent to ACMA  in Australia.
  • Liaison with local offices and distributors in Australia.
  • Submission of the approval applications to ACMA
  • Making payment for the certification on your behalf
  • Ongoing liaison with ACMA until type approval is granted
