North American Safety Approval

We can provide access to any North American NRTL mark including UL, but due to lower cost, the reduced number of annual factory inspections and speed of service TRaC recommends the MET Mark.

Many industrial electrical products destined for the USA market and allproducts for the Canadian market will require some form of mandatoryapproval testing. For marketing and anti-litigation reasons, UScustomers  often require safety approvals for domestic products, eventhough this is non-mandatory.

In the USA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)regulates the use of electrical equipment in the workplace. OSHArequires employers to provide safe electrical equipment within theirpremises.

Certification from a National Recognised Testing Laboratory (NRTL) is normally required as evidence that the product is safe.

Mutual recognition agreements exist in some product areas betweenNRTL's and their Canadian counterparts which permit the supply ofproducts certified in one country within the other.

There are currently fourteen listed NRTL's.

• In Canada, the NRTL certification body is Canadian Standards association (CSA).

• In the USA certification can be obtained from a number of bodies including UL (Underwriter's Laboratories), Factory Mutual and MET Labs.
