Safety testing for the Low Voltage Directive (LVD)

The Low voltage directive (LVD) 2006/95/EC is a CE marking Directive and applies to any electrical equipment designed for use with (either as an input or output) a voltage rating of between 50 and 1000 V for alternating current (A.C.) and between 75 and 1500 V for direct current (D.C.).

Applying to the vast majority of electrical equipment in everyday use the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) states electrical equipment can only be placed on the market if it does not endanger the safety of persons, domestic animals or other equipment and goods. It is mandatory to CE Mark products that fall within the scope of this Directive and this must be supported by the correct documentation.

TRaC  can provide all the services a manufacturer needs to meet the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD). There are key aspects which are mandatory and these must be in place before CE marking to this Directive can take place, these are:

  • Product Safety Testing
  • Compilation of a Technical File
  • Declaration of Conformity (DoC)

We offer impartial third party support to manufacturer's in all aspects of the CE Marking Directive; from design consultation, full product testing, Technical File compilation and review.

Component acceptability for CE product safety »

Component approval for electrical appliances and equipment »

TRaC can issue the third party qualification necessary to provide vital market advantage and confidence.

For the EU markets as a BERR (formerly the DTi) Notified Body under the LVD, the documentation that we issue is in a recognised format and thus should ensure universal acceptability by enforcement authorities through out the EU.

As a Certification Body Test Laboratory we offer the TRaC mark to anyone meeting the requirements of our National Certification Body (NCB) scheme, under the IECEE certification scheme, further details of the members of the IECEE scheme and it’s advantages can be found at www.iecee.org/cbscheme/cbfunct.pdf

Safety standards are  generally mature and well defined, for a list of commonly applied standards click here »

It should be remembered that the incorrect CE marking of products can carry severe penalties both for the company and for the individual responsible for signing the DoC.
