This is provided for by the LVD in the form of a Technical File (TF) and the Directive specifies what this file must contain:

  • A general description of the electrical equipment
  • Design and manufacturing drawings plus diagrams of components, sub-assemblies, circuits.
  • Descriptions and explanations needed to understand the above mentioned drawings and diagrams plus the operation of the electrical equipment.
  • A list of the standards used, in full or part and a description of the solutions employed to meet the safety aspects of this directive when standards have not been applied*.
  • The results of design calculations and of checks carried out, etc.
  • Product Safety Testing (Reports)

Presumption of Conformity with the LVD can only be claimed provided Harmonised Standards have been used. Where this is not possible we can assist, in interpreting results and requirements from other international safety schemes.

Also required to be held is the: Declaration of Conformity (DOC)

The TF must be kept at the disposal of the national authorities (HSE, Trading Standards etc) for at least 10 years from the last date of manufacture of the product.

TRaC offer impartial support to manufacturer's in all aspects of this CE Marking Directive; from design consultation, Technical File compilation and review and of course product testing in one of our well equipped laboratories or in some cases at a customers site.

It should be remembered that the incorrect CE Marking of products can carry severe penalties both for the company and for the individual responsible for signing the DOC.
