EMC training courses
TRaC provide training courses on a range of EMC and general approval requirement related subjects.
We sit on National, European and International standardisation bodies and assist with the drafting of new standards. This provides an insight into what requirements will be mandated in the months and years ahead and also interpretation where the standard is ambiguous.
As we test many products every day, there are a fair number which in the first instance fail to meet the limits or conditions specified, Working with our customers and using our expertise we have built up a knowledge base to enable modifications to be done during the test program which resolve any issues that arise.
Given our presence with the standards bodies and knowledge of how things fail and how to correct the design puts us in an ideal position to offer training courses to pass this knowledge on. Our training courses are normally bespoke and tailored to a specific company’s issues. These training courses can be provided within our facilities and are limited to 70 people or can be held within your offices with any number of attendees.
In general however we offer training in the following areas:
Commercial Awareness
Identifies the various legislative requirements for a given product for market access. The courses review the current EU directives or national law requirements, standards routes to approval and how compliance is achieved. It also provides advice on managing approvals, since typically the approval needs to be maintained throughout the life cycle of the product and also awareness to buyers and requirements staff on the issues to be aware of during procurement of components or subsystems.
Design – commercial
This module looks into the most common design issues that compromise EMC performance. It starts with the basics of the issues, the techniques used to identify areas of concern for EMC and what components are used to mitigate the problems. The course reviews shielding, earthing (grounding) and filtering and how these relate to one another.
Design – military
Designing products for use in a military environment is a challenge – the performance needs to be excellent and yet the EMC profile needs to very quiet from an emissive perspective and very immune from other sources of interference. We draw on much of our experience of testing military and aerospace products to offer practical advice and also use references such as Def Stan 59-411 Part 5 for the theoretical.
The course incorporates practical demonstrations on the use of various components and reviews the pitfalls of misusing these components form an EMC perspective.
