EMC Qualification & Compliance Management
Testing products and equipment to meet legislative requirements can be a challenge even for small items however the issue becomes much more complex when integrating a system together.
Systems integrators need to think about the installation or system on a holistic basis rather than at product level. This is because the standards and limits which the individual product has been tested may be different for the final assembly. For example, a production line may comprise of many apparatus including variable speed drives, programmable logic controllers (PLC's), contactors, motors etc. Each of these equipments have their own EMC standard and yet when the system is brought together non of these standards potentially apply to the overall system which could result in failures occurring.
To ensure this doesn't happen an EMC Control Plan is generated. This control plan describes the environment is which the system has to operate, looks into the various EMC standards, regulations and directives and then details how the EMC will be managed to ensure that the overall system is EMC compliant.
