DASS2 testing
Digital Access Signaling System 2 (DASS2) is a protocol for digital links to
the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). It was the first introduction in the
UK to an Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and was introduced before the ITU-T
Q.921/Q.931 standards.
DASS2 is a legacy signaling protocol that is still in existence in the digital networks within the UK. It was the precursor of ISDN and has some functional similarities.
As the BT network within the UK moves towards its 21CN (21st Century Network), there has been a recent requirement for products that can interface with DASS2 in order to allow protocol translation.
Depending on the intended location of the DASS2 device in relation to the network demarcation point, such devices do still have to satisfy EMC and Safety regulation. Telecoms functionality is generally a conformance requirement as such products fall under the remit of the R&TTE Directive, thus there are no regulatory telecoms requirements.
