Seismic Testing

Seismic Qualification with TRaC
In partnership with the Bristol Earthquake Engineering Laboratory (BEELAB), at Bristol University, since 2005, TRaC has qualified a broad range of equipment and systems to meet the seismic qualification and earthquake testing requirements of diverse industries in a variety of seismically active countries around the world.
The Process of Earthquake Testing
Typically, TRaC will partner with Companies, from the initial tendering stage of a project, providing technical and commercial advice. In many instances, this involves working with the Design Authority to produce a relevant and practical seismic Qualification Test Plan (QTP), which may involve Finite Element Analysis, Physical Testing or a combination of both. Once the QTP has been approved, TRaC has a team of highly qualified and experienced analysis and test engineers that will provide an assured and timely qualification of a new or developed product, using a range of state of the art finite element analysis software and the most comprehensive seismic test facility in the UK.
Our Seismic Test Facilities
The earthquake test facility (shown above), is a 3m by 3m shaking table which can carry a payload of up to 15 tonnes. Eight actuators can accelerate the platform to over 4g simultaneously in the horizontal and vertical directions with corresponding displacements of up to 300 mm (pk-pk). The table has full, active control of all six degrees of freedom of motion to give the greatest flexibility and control over tests. Digital vibration controllers and control software developed by BEELAB, enable single axis, biaxial and triaxialearthquake tests to be carried out in accordance with an extensive range of national and international standards.
