ESQ Subject Matter Experts

Peter Moir, B.Sc. (Hons), CEng., FIMechE.
One of the UKs most experienced computational analysis experts. With a background as a Senior Research Fellow at Lanchester Polytechnic, later Coventry University. Peter is a leading authority on the complexities of Finite Element Analysis and has built up significant experience in a wide range of engineering areas with particular expertise in non-linear problems.
He has supported, through computational Analysis, major projects in the Nuclear, Biological, transport, gas pipe line and aerospace sectors. In each case saving costly test failures, enhancing equipment design and improving life of asset.
Chris Stone, BSc (Hons) MIMechE
With his focus on the field of Structural Dynamics and Modal Testing Chris has been involved with the seismic qualification testing of structures and equipment for the Nuclear Power, Defence and Telecommunications industries. Working in association with Bristol University the only commercially available triaxial earthquake test facility in the UK. His work includes lecturing on the practical considerations of Earthquake Testing, based on his unique experience of performing in excess of fifty seismic qualification test programmes on equipment that is currently in service in seismically active regions around the world.
Khaled Owais, B.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc., Ph.D., CEng., FIMechE
Khaled has contributed to the UK nuclear high temperature Design Code and sat on the Working Group Review Panel. He also developed non-linear finite element analysis software to evaluate creep, plastic deformation and creep-fatigue damage in reactors. He has carried out studies involving shock and vibration, dynamic response, seismic analysis and creep and fatigue life assessment applied in many engineering sectors.
He sits on the Durability and Fatigue Group of the Engineering Integrity Society (EIS), being a member of the EIS council, Director and Treasurer.
Simon Hindle PhD BEng. (Hons)
Graduating with a PhD and 1st class honours degree in Electronics and Communications Simon enables the integration of radio solutions into a very wide variety of products.
Working in the radio industry for the majority of his career Simon has an in depth knowledge of radio design and parameters which ensures TRaC customers get the guidance they require. He develops the compliance strategies required in order to place their wireless and radio products onto the market, using the TRaC approvals team to gain access to the major regulatory domains of Europe, North America and Asia.
Eur Ing Mark Heaven C.Eng FIET
28 years in the compliance industry with a proven track record in organisational strategy, Mark has delivered a significant number of high profile infrastructure projects in the rail, aviation, transport and defence sectors in the UK, the USA and Asia.
Leading the changes required in an organisation to get commitment to a process that ensures all legal and contractual compliance deliverables are met.
Using structured methods and procedures based on a broad view of multi discipline priorities has led the compliance process for national and multinational primes managing their supply chain by influencing and educating stake holders and key members of staff.
Steve Hayes CEng, MIET
Having worked for many years in EMC test laboratories around the UK in both test and management roles, Steve now uses this expertise to assist in the writing of International EMC standards, involved in the preparation of standards for IEC, CISPR, ETSI and CENELEC bringing a pragmatic approach to these forums.
His ability to interpret and contribute to test standards underpins his role as the principal UK expert on EMC standardisation for Industrial, Scientific and Medical equipment and more recently he has become a subject matter expert regarding CE Marking of military equipment.
Karim Sharf MEng.
After graduating with an MEng. in Electronic and Mechanical Systems, Karim and has over 17 years extensive experience in the certification and regulation of many areas of the telecoms industry. His principal experience is in the field of digital telecoms, including ISDN, SDH and xDSL, and he has participated in a number of international forums and standards development projects.
Karim actively participates in the Broadband Forum and the Femto Forum, where he is the chair of the interoperability testing special interest group (IOT SIG) and the technical editor of the test documentation that IOT SIG produce. He won the Femto Forum Chairman’s award in 2010 for his work towards an open and interoperable eco-system.
