EMC Testing

TRaC offer comprehensive automotive testing services to our customers. TRaC is an appointed VCA Technical Service with UKAS accreditation for Whole Vehicle Testing. We have the ability to perform automotive type approval to the latest Automotive EMC Directive for electrical sub assemblies, as well as testing to other manufacturer specifications.

TRaC can provide all the necessary information for assessment, documentation, testing and reporting. This provides the opportunity to manage the whole e-marking process rather than the manufacturer having to deal with the test house and VCA separately. This ultimately makes the whole process of obtaining an e mark on an automotive component or whole vehicle more efficient and cost effective.

Our 16m Semi Anechoic Chamber, with a rolling road can accommodate large and heavy vehicles as well as standard passenger cars. The chamber enables EMC testing to be carried out for both emissions and immunity, eliminating the need to move the vehicle, resulting in reduced set up times and therefore reduced costs. Smaller products can be tested in any of the 10 smaller chambers within the group.

Environmental testing

The ability of a product to withstand the environment within which it has to operate is critical to its success. In today’s competitive world, only vehicles that are demonstrably more reliable will succeed. TRaC can provide a comprehensive facility for automotive component and equipment designers to evaluate and qualify the behaviour and performance of their products by subjecting them to the following controlled test conditions:

Radio testing

TRaC provide radio compliance testing for all types of radio systems that are employed in automotive technology, from hands free kits, to anti-theft systems, to proximity radars. These systems include UWB, Bluetooth, SRD technology and TRaC is well placed to offer the complete solution for all of these products.

Test reports

Automotive test reporting requires a very professional approach with careful attention to detail as laid down in the test standards. These reports are more involved than most "commercial" reports because of the nature of complex equipment under test. At TRaC  we acknowledge the requirement for speedily generated test reports. Under normal circumstances reports are generated within two weeks. However we do offer a report generation service within 2-3 days if required.


TRaC provides our automotive customers with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) solutions to determine the complex stresses and deflections under static and dynamic loads. Vehicles travelling over rough surfaces involve interactions between relatively stiff structures having comparatively flexible suspension. Using FEA techniques, TRaC can evaluate virtual prototypes and optimize designs for performance, safety and comfort, without the inevitable time-scale and cost risks in building and testing physical prototypes.

Similarly, airflow and component cooling is an important consideration in automotive design, and using Computational Fluid Analysis techniques, TRaC can accelerate your development time for critical heating, cooling and fluid handling systems.

TRaC's analysis team provide real world data acquisition services and data processing, which can be used for boundary conditions for stress modelling or used to generate accelerated life vibration test conditions.
