Broadband Forum TR-069

The Broadband Forum (formerly DSL Forum) TR-069 technical report specifies a protocol that is intended for communication between an Auto-Configuration Server (ACS) and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). The ACS is a server within the service provider's network that has the ability to control and monitor a CPE with the TR-069 protocol.

The CPE WAN Management Protocol defines the mechanism that encompasses secure auto-configuration of a CPE, and also incorporates other CPE management functions into a common framework.

The CPE WAN Management Protocol is intended to support a variety of functions to manage a collection of CPE, including:

  • Auto-configuration and dynamic service provisioning
  • Software/firmware image management
  • Status and performance monitoring
  • Diagnostics

The Motorola Netopia® Broadband Server (NBBS) is a service management platform that has been developed to the Broadband (DSL) Forum TR-069 specification. TRaC has invested in this platform and using the Broadband (DSL) Forum PD-128v6: Interoperability Test Plan for TR-069, can evaluate DSL modems, gateways, set-top boxes, and any other equipment that supports the Broadband (DSL) Forum TR-069 protocol.

The TRaC Certification Program offers CPE vendors the opportunity to validate their products against the Motorola Netopia TR-069 ACS, perform troubleshooting, and to ensure interoperability of the product at time of delivery.
