New safety standard 62368

The new safety standard 62368 moved a little closer in July with the publication of draft text.

The IEC 62368 new safety standard will cover products currently under the scopes of IEC 60065 and IEC 60950 Audio/Video, Information and Communication Technology Equipment – Safety Requirements.

Comments of the draft have to be received by 19th December 2008and the estimated time of publication is spring/summer 2009.

The transition period is likely to be around five years, during which time either the new standard or the old standards may be applied.
